Shopping At HyVee

Image
After seeing the 2 day sale at HyVee -- I knew I had to hit it today! $.59 for Hunt's Canned Pasta sauce (normally $1.89) jumped out at me, as I got the same deal last year! It was their annual "rock bottom price" sale on this and I wanted 20 cans of it...that should hold me until this sale next year between quick pasta nights, and the no bake lasagna I make for families with new babies. :) Butter was also a great price --> $1.99 a pound for salted or unsalted, store brand. I grabbed two pounds for me and six for my Mom. The total receipt was $28.96 -- but I get $11.94 from Mom to drop MY total to $17.06, which was like buying 9 cans of sauce and getting 11 FREE, along with 2# of butter. SCORE! So, here is my $100 Grocery Budget for the month: $100 -$7.90 (Miss Sarah having one school lunch a week) +14.38 Copps Trip 2/4 $106.48 +$4.19 Copps Trip 2/8 $110.64 - $4.87 Copps Trip 2/11 $105.77 -$16.47 Sentry Foods Run $89.30 -$42.00 Dinner Out 2/14 $47...

Amish Friendship Bread: Pancakes!

Image
If you have been playing along with us - today is day #10! It's time to feed and then bake some yummy goodness! This recipe uses two cups of the "starter" and makes about 16 pancakes that are roughly 4-5" big. I like to spread them on a cookies sheet and freeze them quickly. In Wisconsin, it is easy this time of year - we just pop it on the porch and let the chilling winter air do it's work in less than 5 minutes. THEN I layer the frozen cakes into a container and pop into the freezer. 2 pancakes on a plate - zapped for 20 seconds and I have a hot breakfast for Miss Sarah on a school morning. =) If you haven't been playing along, you can see more about how to make a "starter" HERE Pancakes 1 cup flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 tsp cinnamon 2 tablespoons oil 1 tsp vanilla extract 2 cups Amish Friendship Bread Starter 1/2 cup milk (plus 1/4 cup if needed) 1 egg Directions: 1.Combine flo...

It's Coming...Winter!!

Image
According to my Arthritis (and the weather man) there is a decent snowstorm finally coming to Wisconsin. Actually, two of them! One starts late tonight and runs through tomorrow (Thursday) and one hits on Sunday-ish. Here are a couple of quick reminders for safety, thanks to http://www.ready.gov/   To prepare for a winter storm you should do the following: 1) Before winter approaches, add the following supplies to your emergency kit: •Rock salt or more environmentally safe products to melt ice on walkways. Visit the Environmental Protection Agency for a complete list of recommended products. •Sand to improve traction. •Snow shovels and other snow removal equipment. •Sufficient heating fuel. You may become isolated in your home and regular fuel sources may be cut off. Store a good supply of dry, seasoned wood for your fireplace or wood-burning stove. •Adequate clothing and blankets to keep you warm. 2) Make a Family Communications Plan. Your family may not be together...

Wisconsin’s Own project.

Image
I am a HUGE supporter of buying local! Everything from CSA programs where you buy a share in a local farm to shopping through home party plan consultants...it all keeps the money in our own neighborhood and makes a difference. I hate to see news articles of people loosing jobs because some manufacturing plant just moved out of state or worse yet, out of the country. THAT is one of the reason's I am SO EXCITED about this new venture: the Wisconsin's Own Project! As of January 25th, you may have seen this featured at your local Walmart... The yearlong program will identify participating Wisconsin-produced products to customers through shelf tags and display signage...more than 100 brands and companies will be featured in the store’s displays. Rayovac had their own press release: RAYOVAC AMONG FEATURED “WISCONSIN’S OWN” PRODUCTS AT WALMART New in-store program praises products made in Wisconsin MADISON, Wisconsin, January 25, 2012 – Finding and buying Made in Wiscon...

I wasn't going to. Honestly. Coupons For The Military

Image
Do you have expired coupons? Do NOT throw them out --  you can still put them to good use!! Our military families give up so much for us, that there is one simple thing we can do to give back to them: send them our expired coupons! I know, it sounds wacky - but they can use them for up to 6 months past the expiration date at the Commissary (for edible items) and their PX (for personal care items).  Here are a few things you need to know -- It takes a while to get them to the people who will use them, once a package is shipped over seas. That means all coupons have to be mailed with at least 4 months to go. All coupons have to be sorted into two groups: things people eat and things they dont. That is the difference between the Commissary and PX. You can only send manufacturer's coupons -- no store or restaurant coupons. Operation $40K has adopted a base in the UK through the Overseas Coupon Program and will be sending out monthly packages...you are more than welcom...

Yes, I will spend $1 for a keytag. (I have done it before) The money goes to the Foundation and through the end of the year, any time you swing by, you will get a FREE Jr Frosty with any purchase. I'm not proud of it, but I am fond of their baked potatoes and chili...yes, more things on the $1 menu -LOL! I DO see us occasionally going back there and taking advantage of their unlimited offer.
