What To Watch For In June!

Everyone knows that produce is seasonal...we have had that talk before as I have stocked up on Easter Clearance items in April and currently, BBQ supplies! We still follow the seasonal items at our local store so we know when the fruit is in season, and thereby at it’s lowest annual cost. A savvy shopper waits until a product is on sale and then stocks up! The idea is to create a stockpile that will last you 3-12 months, or until the product again reaches its lowest price. (Not that you can do that with fresh produce unless your process it!) Convenience/Packaged Foods are seasonal just like produce! Every month we have new things to look for. Here is what is "hot" for April - keep your eyes out for the sales and have your coupons ready! June is National Dairy Month! That should translate into deals on Eggs, Milk  (Free Milk Catalina, wyb cereal - it's been awhile on the cereal deals!), Ice Cream, Cheese, Butter, Yogurt, and whipped cream. Keep an eye out for In-stor...

Spring's gentle announcement that winter is over - a dazzling array of different colors and scents, just waiting to be discovered! Apparently, they have a new name for the what we have always called the McKay center: Longenecker Gardens. The smaller sign kindly reminds you: No pets, no food, no garbage. Besides hundreds of beautiful blooming trees, there are benches through out for when you just want to sit, and take it in Plenty of soft grass to relax on too!  I just love it when simple things create great smiles:  All of the trees are tagged, some of them are over 100 years old! They tell you name, maybe who donated them, or what part of research they were for  It's simply beautiful this time of year. The cooler weather has made it last longer than it normally does, but hurry - you are almost at the end of the season.  So many different things to see and smell!  We hope you you get a chance to get over there and enjoy it! It's become an annual event for u...

Frugal Friday: Getting Out Of Debt

One of the things I have learned from my twenty years of direct sales  (yes, I have been in Tupperware that long!) is how to manage money. We are given Business Owner tips and training that apply to many areas of life, outside our business. SOOOOO many people need help with this! They are facing a mountain of credit card debt, struggling to make their house payments,  having a hard time buying groceries, unable to buy clothes for their children, and more. It just breaks my heart. Life is about choices, priorities, if you will. It is what we choose to do that can make the difference! Some people make good choices, some people aren't as savvy. It can be the smallest things that make a huge difference. Did you know , that if you cut your spending $3 a day and deposited that $90 each month, with a 3% interest rate (trust me, it WILL go back up)  you would have $23,000 in just fifteen years? That $3 could be the daily coffee from Starbucks...

Field Trip!

Image
One of the joys of being home with the kids, it the ability to chaperon class field trips! The latest was the public library. After a short bus ride, we got the introduction to the tour from Miss Lynn.   Then, we go to see cool things like the back side of the book return drop... and the drive through book return drop.   Then it was story time!  Add a quick reenactment of the story Caps For Sale...  And a little free play...  It makes for a fun trip until they have to line up for the return bus ride back.  It makes me sad to see that they are almost too tall for the kids doorway under the tree! Have you been on a field trip lately?

Register at www.frenchs.com and you can get mustard coupons! $.50 off ANY mustard $.75 off the honey mustard dipping sauce $1.00 off the new Dijon mustard and more! Hurry - before they are out of prints for the month :)

Recyclebank

It is simple: Learn more about living a little "greener" life, earn points, redeem them for coupons! These are often high value coupons for things like Yoplait, Dove, Coke, Gain, etc. In less than five minutes, I had 100 points, enough for two different coupons! Sign up here  and have fun with the kiddos! Maybe you are luckier than I am - I don't live in an area where I can get points for the recycle garbage that gets picked up each week, but you could! THAT could add up real fast! =)

Amish Rhubarb Crumb Pie

Image
The Rhubarb fest continues - I have a very prolific plant this year! This is a simple, but good pie recipe, enjoy. 1 (9 inch) pie shells 4 cups rhubarb, sliced 1 inch thick 1 cup sugar 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice 1 teaspoon salt Preheat oven to 425º F.   Combine the rhubarb, sugar, flour, lemon and salt. Turn into unbaked pie shell, place it on a cookie sheet and pop into the oven for 30 minutes. While it is baking, make the crumb topping! 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 dash salt 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup butter, softened You can use your fingers to combine it all or a fork Take the pie out of the oven...  Sprinkle the topping over it...  And return to the oven.  Bake for 15 minutes more or until crumbs are brown and pie is bubbly.  Cool on rack. It's great with vanilla ice cream! NOTE: Rhubarb is tart. depending on your taste, you might want to add more sugar.
