As always, keep an eye on YOUR sale flier and watch for the magic "doubling" coupon. =) **Remember, Piggly Wiggly stores are independently owned and their ads occasionally don't match up as prices may vary per store. (YMMV) Check your store ad for prices and to see it's coupon policy --Keep in mind that not everything in the ad is on sale, it is FOR sale! I am listing what I think are the best deals, NOT matching up everything in the flier with a coupon. =) FC = Food Club, their store brand Produce Deals Bartlett Pears $.99/# Dole Celery $.89 each - weigh them and get a heavier one Roma Tomatoes $.99/# Farm Fresh Michigan Carrots $.48/# Yellow Onions $.98 for a 3# bag ($.33/#) McIntosh, Courtland or Red Delicious Apples $1.69/3# bag ($.56/#) Watermelon Cuts $.69/# Green Cabbage $.48/# Wisconsin Russet Potatoes $.99 for a 5# bag ($.20/#) 3# bag of Red "B" potatoes FREE with 2100 pig points Meat Deals Split Chicken Breasts $.99/# Far

Frugal Friday - Surving the Holidays Financially

We almost in year FIVE of this recession and for a lot of people, things are beyond of tight. This leads them to dread the holidays - which have become so commercialized that they make everyone think that they need to spends thousands of dollars to get the perfect Norman Rockwell experience. Guess what? You don't! My mother was a very poor child and remembers getting excited at an orange in her stocking on Christmas morning. (Keep in mind that she was a small child when dinosaurs ruled the earth and you couldn't pick up an orange at the local grocery in the middle of winter...) I remember simple things too - (Still not wealthy, but the dinosaurs were gone...) like the sounds of holiday records on the big console player, sweet smells of cookies and candies that were often made as gifts, decorating the tree, watching the dog try to drink the water out of the tree stand, getting three gifts because that was the same amount that Jesus had gotten, and visiting good friends.

Budget Update

I did a little shopping/spending of money over the last week - and need to update my budget! My Monthly Budget: $100 - 6.83 Copps 10/1 $93.17 to go - $2 lunch at Lake Mills Fall Fest - $18.24 HyVee 10/6 $72.93 to go -$2.30 for Walgreen's (10/7) -$17.84 Sentry (10/6) $52.79 to go -$2.00 McDonald's (2 sweet teas...) -$11.50 Red Robin (a night out with my girlfriends!) -$3.20 Dollar General (gallon of milk) $36.09 to go. I KNOW I am going to hit Copp's on Wednesday for the Megga GM deal: practically FREE granola bars make for GREAT snacks for Miss Sarah's class or Sunday School group and the cereal can always be donated to the food pantry! :)

Holiday Wish Books...

Image
As a kid, one of the things I looked forward to after Thanksgiving, was the Sears Holiday Wish Book that showed up in our mail! I remember pouring over it for hours, circling the things I was hoping Santa would deliver Christmas eve.... Being in the cyber age, kiddos can't really do that - I am not letting Miss Sarah circle things on my laptop, screen after screen. THAT is where the Farm N Fleet Toyland catalog comes in! :) I am NOT going to Toyland Saturday, when it opens - but am going to give Miss Sarah the catalog and let her become another generation of page flippers, item circling dreamers! Keep in mind that my gifts for her are already purchased and wrapped -- ready to take out of the holiday tote and pop under a tree - even "Santa" has been busy already. This simply gives me an idea what to tell the grandparents AND, see if I am waaaay off base on her interests. (not really worried about that this year, LOL) Were you a wish book kid?

Weekend Fun For Kids!

Image
I am SOOO excited that the Waisman Center Children's Theater is back! It is one of our favorite things to do on the weekend, over the school year: it's VERY affordable, has a great variety of programs and is geared to the munchkin crowd, yet fun for adults too. The WCCT features a variety of performers—magicians, singers, dancers, musical groups, "learning is fun" educators/performers, and professional theatrical companies. An important goal of the series is to include culturally and ethnically diverse performers and activities—from Cajun music to Irish Dancing; from Italian folk tales to traditional Mexican dances. Many of the performances showcase children as the sole performers or "stars" of the production, such as Dance Wisconsin, PlayTime Productions, and Trinity Academy of Irish Dance. By including these performances in the series, children are given inspiration and role models for expressing themselves through the arts. (as their website so nicely

***NEW*** Copp's Winning Play Game

Image
I kinda like the logo -- we are Green Bay Packer's fans here, LOL! I do NOT like game pieces, etc that I have to track, save, etc -- so Monopoly wasn't really my thing and NOW, we get another game from the folks at Roundy's: Winning Play. It runs 10/9 through 2/4/2012. Like Monopoly - you get a piece for shopping, and there are bonus buy pieces -- often featured in the ad. You scratch ONLY 3 footballs, and win the prize box feature if they all match. There is a scratch off coupon/offer on the bottom of the ticket too...I can see the silver shavings everywhere already, LOL! Over 6 million in prizes -- I hope you win!
