Food Pantries

As more and more people lose their jobs, benefits and fall off the unemployment rolls, more and more people are turning to their local pantry for assistance.

Normally, during Lent, we give up something for the 40 days and try to volunteer more - help out humanity. How about helping your community during Lent with service to others or by simply donating personal care items! Cleanliness helps prevent nutritional problems and the spread of disease and illness...

Most pantries can buy food at a ridiculously discounted deal but have a hard time keeping personal care items in stock. The new, revised Food Stamp program doesn't let people purchase personal care items with their credits either!

Us savvy coupon gals know that we can score a lot of those precious personal care items for a fraction of the cost - just pennies or, often FREE!
=)

I am hoping that over the next six weeks, collectively, we can donate 1,000 items to our local pantries - will you take me up on the challenge?

We will have a weekly focus - and you can reply to the post if you participated or not...but if each of my readers would pull just ONE thing out of their stockpile and donate it each week, we would MORE than hit that $1,000+ items goal!

Here is the weekly line up:

Donate before March 13th: Diapers, Wipes, Baby Shampoo
Donate before March 20th: Toothbrushes, Toothpaste
Donate before March 27th: Shampoo, Combs
Donate before April 3rd: Toilet Paper (single wrapped rolls)
Donate before April 10th: Kids' Stuff! Juice Boxes, Animal Crackers, Microwave Popcorn, Fruit Roll Ups, Books
Donate before April 17th: Personal Products! Deodorant, Feminine Products, Bath Soap, Hand Sanitizer.

In Tupperware, I teach my team that A Little, Often, Equals Much. When everyone helps a little bit, it adds up to an amazing outcome that more than rewards your heart. This is no different a concept AND teaches a great lesson to our children.
=)

Here is my challenge to you:
1) Donate items of the week to your local pantry/shelter.
2) Reply to the thread of the week as a check in - that you did, and how many items you donated.
3) I will have a weekly gift...drawn for from the people that reply. Each item you donate gets you a chance at that weekly drawing.
4) Share this mission on YOUR blogs - let's really pay this forward and make an impact!

This is the honor system ladies and gentlemen - I take you all for your word.
I will track it on my sidebar - so you can tell at a glance our impact so far...

Come play with us!
=)

  1. We are starting this week at our church. Our church donates to the local pantry - this week we are focusing on protein. They list out specific food items that the shelters are in need of. It's been a great lesson for my kids!

  2. Hi Dannelle,

Good to meet you at Heidi's Tupperware party!

I was able to get 4 toothbrushes, 2 small tubes of toothpaste, 1 dental floss, 1 bottle of shampoo and 2 things of tampons together this week for the food pantry. We'll be bringing them in with a bag of food next week.
