Fun Little FREE things

There is no secret that I am being frugal right now...when I have a rare Saturday open, I like to do fun things with Ms Sarah but not break the bank!

MANY places have fun things that are cheap or free- you can check with:
-Your church
-Home Depot
-JoAnn's Craft Store
-Michael's Craft Store
-Your Library
-Barnes & Noble Bookstore
-Borders Bookstore

That's a good list to get your started. Last week we actually went to Target!
This was the promo that they sent out:

Next Saturday, February 26th from 9 am – 11 am, Target will be participating in NEA’s Read Across America. This is a FREE event where kids get to enjoy a Storytime with Dr. Seuss favorites, plus there will be giveaways and coupons. Last year they gave out Dr. Seuss themed goody bags & snacks as well as $5/$50 Purchase coupons so if you have little ones, you may want to make Target a stop next Saturday morning. Target is also offering a couple FREE Dr. Seuss coloring activities you can download right now too.

If you are not familiar with Reading Across America, it is an annual campaign that Schools, community centers and other organizations take part in it every year to get kids reading. It always takes place right around the beloved Dr. Seuss’s Birthday. For more information on the Read Across America program you can visit the National Education Association Site.

The giveaway was a mini Target shopping bag with a juice box, snack crackers, fruit chewies, stickers, coloring sheet, crayons and a few coupons. VERY nice! I was a REAL slacker - and forgot my camera (the scrapbooker in me cringes...) I would have LOVED to get a few shots off!

We zipped there, right after ballet class, without taking time to change her outfit. We walked into Target, spotted the "cat in the hat" hats and headed over to an area in women's clothing that had been cleared out so kids could sit on the floor with all the ladies in the red shirts who were holding (and reading) Dr Seuss books.

Ms Sarah quickly picked one that she liked and parked her hiney right down next to her as a book was already being read. After that book was finished, Sarah got to pick out the next book.

As they were working their way through that book, Sarah slowly snuggled into the lady who was reading it. I thought it was because she was getting comfortable and liked the lady...but I realized that what she liked, was the book! Pretty soon, Sarah was the one who was reading it to the other kids, LOL!

It was a Dr Seuss book that we didn't have and it was funny to watch the faces of the other ladies who were watching Sarah read. She only stumbled on a few words but even held the book up for the other kids to see the pictures.

CRACK ME UP!

Yes, Memories created. One hour of fun, for free, and then we went home for lunch and a nap.

What are some of your favorite things to do on a weekend?

Comments

  1. Our closest Target is an hour away, so I only go there once a month. And unfortunately, had went just the week before. I would have loved to take my little guy there.

I'm glad to hear Sarah had fun! Sounds like she is a smart cookie too!
