Cub Foods Madison Closing

If you have been to my Coupon Clipping 101 class -- you hear me talk about Cub Foods and how fun it is to use our expired coupons there! Sadly, today they announced that they are closing -- both stores in Madison and that Sentry Metcalfe's is buying out the West Side location. Here is the press release... STILLWATER, MINN. November 7, 2011 — CUB FOODS, a leading Midwest food and pharmacy retailer, announced the company will close its two Madison area stores by mid-January. The company has signed a purchase agreement for one of the stores, located at 7455 Mineral Point Road, with Metcalfe’s Market, an independent retailer that currently owns and operates two stores in Madison and Wauwatosa, Wis. The in-store Associated Bank branch in the Cub store at 4141 Nakoosa Trail has been notified of this change. The in-store Cub pharmacies will close within the next couple of weeks, although final plans are still being determined. As more information is known, it will be shared with pa...

Recyclebank

It is simple: Learn more about living a little "greener" life, earn points, redeem them for coupons! These are often high value coupons for things like Yoplait, Dove, Coke, Gain, etc. In less than five minutes, I had 100 points, enough for two different coupons! Sign up HERE and have fun with the kiddos! Maybe you are luckier than I am - I don't live in an area where I can get points for the recycle garbage that gets picked up each week, but you could! THAT could add up real fast! The best part? It's FREE!

Baking Item Stock Up Price Guideline

I have had a lot of people emailing me to ask "what is a good price for flour"? (or sugar or chocolate chips, etc) Here is a rough list -- so you know, while perusing the sales ads, when to stock up (sale prices/with or without coupons -- what is out of pocket cost) Butter: $2/# or less Cake Mix: $1 or less Chocolate Chips: $1 per 12-16 oz bag Flour: 5 lb bag $1.00- $1.29 ($.20 to $.25 a pound) Pam sprays $1 or less Sugar, white $1.99 for 5 lb bag ($.40/# or less) Sugar, brown / confectioners .75/# or less That being said - here is Aldi's every day prices: Butter: $2.69/# Cake Mix $0.99 Flour (5 lb) $1.63 Sugar – brown / confectioner's (1 lb) $1.49 Sugar – White (5 lb) $2.99 Vegetable Oil (48 oz) $1.99 I hope that helps you! :) Blessings - Dannelle

Crock Pot Alert!

Image
OK -- truth be told, I HAD to buy a new crock pot because I killed mine over the weekend. (sigh) I dropped the lid, which hit a metal table base and shattered into a bajillion pieces. Of course, my model was no longer made and and I couldn't just get a new top! I can NOT live without a crock pot -- I use it weekly!!!! The hubster caught the Farm & Fleet's ad this week that showed a 6 Qt Hamilton Beach that was on sale for $19.99 (normally $32.99) You can see it online HERE Great price -- and it looks a LOT better than the 5Qt for $14.88 that I almost picked up at Walmart! SO, if you are looking for a new Crock Pot -- it's a great price! I don't expect to see any better on Black Friday.

Winners!

Winners have been picked for all the recent giveaways (Make Up, We Love Our Fans, and Your Cleaning Solution) and emails sent out. Congrats to them! More are coming soon!

Meal Plan Monday

Image
Here's what is on the calendar for the week: I am volunteering in my daughter's classroom, have a Tupperware meeting, have 2 classes and a weekend scrapbooking event (that I organize a few times a year)  I also have to make those Princess Curtains and never did that " serious baking day." I DID hit Aldi's last week for fruit (need to update my budget page) and am already running low on it. One thing I did realize when trying to make a Double Double Day shopping plan was the simple fact that it's time to eat out of the stockpile!  I have a very full pantry and only need beans! (Chili beans, baked beans, etc) Here is the list: Breakfast will include: - Cold cereal - Yogurt - Peanut Butter and Nutella Toast - Apple Cinnamon Crepes Lunches as normal (sandwiches, snacky stuff, wraps, left overs, tappas plates) and for dinner... Monday - Creamed Chip Beef over toast points, carrots (skipped it last week) Tuesday - Chicken & Broccoli Crep...

I shared info about their Rebate program last year ... see here. This is kind of like the Register Rewards at Walgreen's but you have to mail in the form to get your perks back...even though you can still roll them along. What is nice is the simple fact that these do NOT expire, so you can be patient and roll them over when you find the right deal. I LOVE the FREE after rebate items, but will settle for less than free, if I can use up old rebate checks to make up the difference. =) This is NOT all the deals in the flier - just the ones that are FREE or practically FREE: Did I miss one? Let me know! Metal Bi-Fold Door Knobs  $.75 - $.75 MIR = FREE (Limit of 20) Vinyl Window Blinds (23"x42") $2.00 - $2.00 MIR = FREE (Limit of 2) 8oz Hardwood Floor Finisher $3.00 - $3.00 MIR = FREE (Limit of 5) HERE is their coupon policy - happy shopping!

When To Buy Organic Produce

Image
One of the trickiest things of a healthier lifestyle is making good food choices. Eating more "whole" foods, leaner meats, more fruits, veggies and grains. A natural thought is to lean towards the organic choices - but it can wreak havoc on your wallet! It tends to cost a little more to buy the organic version of an item than buying the "non - organic" version. What does "Organic" mean? “Organic” is a designation used by the USDA National Organic Program to certify food that is produced without synthetic chemicals or fertilizers, genetic engineering, radiation or sewage sludge. (I know - EWW!) It helps to know WHEN to buy Organic items and when you really don't need to. Not everyone knows about the "dirty dozen" items that are usually high in pesticides - the items you want to avoid as they tend to increase your chances of certain kinds of cancers and other diseases. It's ironic as you eat more fresh produce to PREVENT that from...

Deal ideas for Double Double Day

I know this will shock some of you - but I don't think I am hitting the stores tomorrow. (pick yourself up off the floor....) Our house is more than covered, so is my Mom's and brother's house. I would only be shopping for the food pantry this week and didn't see anything fantastic other than the cereal deal and my food pantry is good on cereal right now. Here is how YOU can work the cereal deal to your best advantage: Buy 6 Boxes of General Mills Cereal (Select Varieties) at Regular Price, Get $9 Off Instantly at Checkout. I have a cereal price list for you that helps you plan your math on this deal. Let’s say you got 6 boxes of Multi Grain Cheerios at $3.79 a box. That would be $22.74 The store will take $9 off instantly to drop it to $13.74 If you have three $1 off 2 boxes coupons ($1/2) t...

Blessing Boxes

Image
If you have been a follower of mine for a while - you know I often post deals on toys/kids items that you can get for almost FREE and I suggest you pick a few up to donate, if you don't have little people that you are shopping for. The time of year that we stock up on those items is almost here- the holidays! The Toys For Tots donation bins are out -- soon you will see the "Giving Trees" at the malls and maybe even wish lists at your own church for an "adopt a family" kind of thing. We like to pick a few kiddos off the Giving Tree and to make "Blessing Boxes". You take a shoebox and fill with with things to make a little person happy - a few crafty items like crayons, a few toys like little cars/dolls, personal care items like fun toothpaste or soap, candy, hair clips, etc. You can see a complete suggestion list HERE You can learn more about the Samaritan's Purse program here -- Operation Shoe Box  .
