What to Shop For in February
Everyone knows that produce is seasonal...if you have taken my Coupon Clipping 101 class you have heard me talk about pantry items being seasonal too! In March I covered the Frozen Food Jackpot at Target, we chatted about Easter Clearance items in April, BBQ supplies in May/June, July brought the Ice Cream items, then came the back to school rush.
We know it's smart to wait until a product is on sale and then stocks up!
The idea is to create a stockpile that will last you 3-12 months, or until the product again reaches its lowest price. (Not that you can do that with fresh produce unless your process it!)
Convenience/Packaged Foods are seasonal just like produce! Every month we have new things to look for. Here is what is "hot" for November - keep your eyes out for the sales and have your coupons ready!
February is National Canned Food Month!
It's the time to find big deals and coupons on canned meats (Spam, Tuna, Chicken, etc), vegetables and fruits. Most of these items have a 2 year shelf life (or longer) so don't worry about going overboard if you get each one for pennies!
February is also National Hot Breakfast Month.
Oatmeal, Malt-o-Meal, pancake/waffle mixes, even syrup are going to be your big buys. Keep in mind most mixes do NOT have a long shelf life - maybe 4-6 months.
Obviously it is Valentine's Day --
I like to shop AFTER it, on the 15th and stock up on heart themed items to use later in the year (don't we ALWAYS love our family?) to tuck into lunches, etc. It's also cool to buy Valentine's M&Ms for 50-75% off -- they still taste great in cookies and are a lot cheaper than chocolate chips!
It's also the Year of the Dragon!
Chinese New Year means deals on LaChoy brands, etc. If you like to make stir fry - get your bamboo shoots, water chestnuts and soy for almost nothing this month. Think whole chestnuts for that bacon wrapped appetizer too!
I hope this helps you know what to keep and eye out for!
=)
Happy shopping!
