Quick Sentry Run
One of the things that is nice about taking Miss Sarah to Karate is the fact that there is a Sentry Foods Store close by. Seriously, I walk over to it and can carry my bag back easily.
I feel for the smaller, independent stores.
I really can see the squeeze play that they receive from the larger chains...and this store is one of them. It's the third generation of their family now that owns it and it breaks my heart to see things like packages of holiday cookies still sitting there, at full price, and they expire this week. A huge end cap display of holiday coffees that hasn't moved in three months, snowflake/holiday Ritz crackers, etc. You get the idea.
Things obviously don't sell quickly and they can't/won't mark them down to get them out of the store. I know it frustrates the bargain hunters but it also makes for a sad commentary when they are still sitting on the shelves...
With my budget, I can't afford to shop there often, but like to try to occasionally. I picked up a few things to round out some meals this week:
First of all, cat food. I thought Delilah would appreciate it as we finally ran out of the stockpiled stuff - and she is not going to get treats for regular meals.

Poppy seeds @$2.08 (we used up the last with the last batch of lemon poppy seed muffins)
Lemon Extract $4.57 (real, not imitation)
2 lemons @$.50 each
Roma tomato $.33 (yes, just one)
Bagged Dole Iceberg Lettuce $.89
Jell-O chocolate Instant Pudding @$1.49 (large box for a new Amish Friendship Bread recipe)
Grand total: $16.47 and I didn't use one coupon. (eek!)
