Pink Slime.

If you haven't heard of this stuff yet, I would be surprised. I had shared an article about a month ago about "pink slime" being used in schools....and it's been on the news, in the paper, etc.
Jennifer, from Green Bay Consumer, did a nice article on it HERE.
Shocker: Walmart has been using it! (not really shocked, they do a lot of strange things to keep prices down...)
I took the liberty of contacting a few stores that are in the Madison Area, but not on her list. (She did Aldi's (yes), Festival (no), Copps/PnSave (no), Piggly Wiggly (no), Target (no), Woodman's (no) and Walmart (yes)).

HyVee - Yes
3/23/2012:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
In response to concerns expressed by our customers, Hy-Vee has decided to discontinue the purchase of ground beef products containing Lean Finely Textured Beef. Although this ground beef meets all USDA standards for quality and safety, recent news stories have led to a loss of consumer confidence in the product. We have notified our suppliers of this decision and are working to switch our product lines as quickly as possible. We want to thank our customers for sharing their feedback on this issue and assure them Hy-Vee will continue to listen and respond to their concerns, just as our company has been doing for more than 80 years.

Sentry Foods - No
Nope. Never. (Doesn't surprise me, even their chicken is amazing - hormone free, antibiotic free, etc)

Pierce IGA Markets- Yes and No
They have it in the IBP 1# tube that they buy, but it has NEVER been in their own mix.

Schnucks Statement Regarding Lean Finely Textured Beef
Leaders of Schnuck Markets, Inc. today announced that going forward the company will require suppliers to provide fresh ground beef products that are free of lean finely textured beef (LFTB) trimmings.
Although the use of LFTB in the production of ground beef is a USDA-approved process, Schnucks Vice President of Meat and Seafood Ed Meyer says this decision comes on the heels of recent customer concerns about LFTB. “Some of our customers have indicated a preference for ground beef that is LFTB free. We are listening to our customers and now working with our suppliers to make the transition,” Meyer said.
In the meantime, Meyer reminds customers that the following products, available in Schnucks stores now, do not contain LFTB:
-Meat Master Ground Sirloin (Ground Sirloin or Ground Sirloin Patties)
-Schnucks Never Ever Ground Round (Natural Ground Round or Natural Ground Round Patties)
-Rain Crow Ranch 100% Certified Grass Fed (90% lean, 10% fat) – 16-oz. package.
Meyer says, “Delivering top quality products to our customers is always our aim. Our food experts will always work to ensure that every product sold at Schnucks is wholesome quality product and produced in ways that meet or exceed industry standards.”
