Did you know...
Talk about food for thought!
:)
It's all about working the food PLATE, not the old concept of the food pyramid. Instead of 8-12 ounces of meat, cut it to 3-6 ounces per person, like the PLATE shows.
The leaner the meat, the larger the portion. Beef would be on the 3-4 ounce end and chicken/fish on the 4-6 ounce side.
Less meat, more veggies and whole grains have been PROVEN to lower your risks for different kinds of Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Disease, etc.
Start slowly with your family -- like I talk about in my meal planning class.
If you are making Mexican, use rice and beans in your burritos or enchiladas! If you are making lasagna, add spinach or eggplant! If you are doing Chinese/Asian - ANY veggies are a great idea. Use less meat in your quiches, soups and stews.
As meat can be the most expensive item (per pound) on your grocery list, this simple concept should easily save the family of 4 over $2,000 a year!
