End of an Era - Nifty 50's Closing in Madison

Have you ever heard of "loose meat" sandwiches?
They are kind of like sloppy joes, but without the sloppy.
:)

They are a HUGE thing in Iowa and a staple of the Maid-Rite chain...which is what this place used to be until the owners, Dick and Connie, pulled out of the franchise for one simple reason: the Maid-Rite franchise wanted them to buy their brand of frozen meat and Dick prefers a better quality of FRESH meat.

This is a super cool 50's style restaurant with a FREE jukebox (that Miss Sarah loves dancing to) and a bunch of cool decorations - even Burma Shave signs! They also put the same attention to detail in their soda fountain - where you can get a REAL cherry Coke or hand scooped chocolate shake, like the old drugstore days.

Sadly, they are only open 10 more days. They choose not to sign a 5 year lease...and their cute little store will be swallowed up by the restaurant next door, who will be expanding.

It's like stepping back in time -- and a fun place to bring the kids. There is even a ketchup bottle that is taller than most of them! Get there before it is gone...but keep in mind that it isn't fast food, it's made to order.
