Frugal Friday - Saving on Bread

One of the things that cracks me up is that Miss Sarah has to "suffer" through home made lunches at school. Rarely does she see Oreos, Fishy Crackers or Teddy Grahams - or other pre-made/packed items from the store.

I counter this with fun shaped sandwiches and little notes tucked in the lunch bags.
:)

I see a lot of bread wasted by people who don't know one simple trick -- cut it BEFORE you add the sandwich fixin's.
You can actually cut the entire week's worth and store in until you use it.
I have a Tupperware Square 2 Modular Mate for this...
Sometimes we do crowns, dolphins, hearts, dinosaurs, trains, etc -
Pretty much any cookie cutter will work.
Now, what do you do with all the extra bread?
SAVE IT!!!
Can you tell that about 1/3 of each slice is left?
If your bread is $4.00 a loaf, why throw out that $1.33?
One loaf of bread a week - when you toss  out 1/3 of it - puts $70 a year into your garbage!
I put it right back in the bread bag until I am ready to make bread pudding
or home made bread crumbs.

Bread crumbs are SUPER easy to make -
there is no need to spend $2.00 at the store on a little can of them.
:)
Just toss a few slices into your food processor and pulse until small enough.
Then, pop them in a container and keep them in the freezer, until you are ready for them.
If you have been using the canned for your meatballs/meatloaves,
you will be amazed at the difference!

(The bread pudding recipe will follow in a few days)
