Reinvent and Recreate a Stylish Dorm Room

Being in school comes with a price due to the expensive tuition, but that doesn’t mean that your dorm room has to suffer! Think of affordable ways you can make your room look attractive and well decorated without spending more money. Ask friends and family members if they have décor pieces they’re not using that you’ve had your eyes on and go shopping at your favorite décor stores and pick up as cheap TV stands when sales are going on! Your dorm room will look really stylish thanks to you utilizing your creative shopping skills and refurbished furniture!

The first stylish fundamental piece you need in your dorm room is a floral area rug, which is an easy way to add a fun pattern and color to your room. Your roommate will love it too. If you’ve been eyeing a floral rug that your parents have in the storage room it’s time to add it to your space. Plus, your feet will thank you in the evenings after a long day at classes. It’s much better than a cold tile floor!

If you live in a climate where it’s warm all season long, you’ll need a fan to cool you down in your dorm room. Some dorm rooms, especially ones located in California, are not air-conditioned. That’s why finding a fan that’s pretty with its bright coloring and vintage-inspired design will not only provide great air conditioning, but it will add to an attractive dorm room. Who would have known that a vintage fan could become a statement piece in your small room!

Of course you need a pretty desk chair that’s not only comfortable but that adds a pop of color to your space as well. Pick out a chair that you’ll be okay sitting in more than a few hours at a time and allow it to become a focal point in the room. With its floral design and bright colors it will be a little bit easier to get homework done after classes are over.

So if you’re discouraged that your dorm room isn’t that trendy, change it now! Figure out a way to make your room look amazing while staying within your budget. No one will know that your rug came from your parents and that the fan is vintage. In fact, vintage décor pieces are very trendy these days and will become the highlight of your dorm room.

Chili Dog Casserole

I know this sounds strange -- and yummy at the same time, LOL You need to know the family history to "get it". We are part German, part English, part Irish and part Tennessee Hillbilly. Seriously. Did you ever see that black and white movie of Gary Cooper's called Sergeant York? Yes, my family comes from the Dyer/Yorks -- same family. Some of the "family recipes" are too far out there for even me to try... But this is a pot luck favorite. SUPER Easy and SUPER Easy to make healthier. We choose the middle of the road option, LOL You need:  1 package hot dog buns (8 ct) 1 package hot dogs 2 cups chili (or 1 can) 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese "fixins" That's it! You could do gluten free or whole grain wheat buns, turkey or tofu dogs, vegetarian chili, vegan or light cheese, you get the drift.
