Salsbury Steak
it is basically fried large meatballs with an onion/mushroom brown gravy.
That being said, it IS yummy though and very easy to make!
You start with ground beef...add in whatever you do to make meatballs (no Italian seasoning) and finely diced onions (half an onion to each pound of ground beef)
Now, pan fry them.
This might take 8-10 minutes.
Remove from the pan and let "rest" - so the juices in them evenly distribute through them.
Now, de-glaze that pan with some beef broth (about 2 cups), after you have removed the ucky beef fat solids.
This is where you add in some more diced onion, a little garlic powder,
and Worcestershire sauce!
Simmer a bit, so the onions become tender. Now, make a roux with water and cornstarch. (equal parts of each).
It should look like milk...
Put a few tablespoons into the sauce and bring to a boil - stirring constantly. This helps give it a little "body" and tastes better than a flour roux would.
When it is as you like it, remove from the heat.
Now, add the meat back to the pan and let it set until the rest of your meal is ready..We like to have it with a vegetable (French green beans here) and on top of mashed potatoes.
YUM!
