Frugal Friday: 5 Road Trip Basics To Save Big Bucks On Vacay
Some of these we have talked about recently - thanks to our big Disney trip!
Add them all up together and you can have a GREAT family vacation and not blow the budget.
1) Let's start with souvenirs.
If you have little people, you are in trouble as most places have gift shops geared right to them - almost every major attraction in Magic Kingdom had a gift shop as you left it (Pirate's of the Caribbean, etc). Be proactive with a gift of the day! I have them wrapped and Miss Sarah picks one a day to open, each morning.
2. Take gift cards.
This saves your food budget when you want to go out to eat. You can earn the FREE with so many different ways on the Internet, we use our credit card points for them.
3. Take Food.
Start with a cooler if you are in the car, and shelf stable basics if you are staying in a hotel. A few simple items from the local grocery store and you are golden. Think milk, cheese, etc. (things that don't travel well). If you do not have a fridge in your room, you can switch the ice every day and still be fine.
4. Packing.
This is where Ziploc baggies are your friend!
Who wants to bring home bed bugs? Who likes to simplify what outfit someone wears each day?
It simply makes everything SOOOO easy! Take out of the dresser a zippy bag for the day that has everything, down to undies and, at the end of the day, the dirty clothes go bag into it and pop it into the suitcase.
5. Keep it all together - in your planner.
I have shared a video of my trip planner HERE. Use that same planner to hold all the brochures, etc as each day passes so you can easily review your memories when you get home! If you are a scrapbooker, like I am, it is now SOOOO simple!
