We went into Madison today and used our free coupons for a carousel ride at Ella's Deli. On the way back, we hit HyVee and picked up a few things...
-Hot dogs were 3/$5 - the OLD Oscar Meyer ones we like and I had some $.75 coupons to bring them down to 3/$2.75.
-Ketchup was $.78
-cake mixes were $.77 we got 5 for birthday party cupcakes, etc
-Kruncher potato chips were $1.88 and we had a $1 coupon
-Hunts Spaghetti sauce $.75/can - we got 4
-$.99/pound for Gala apples (.20 off for getting a tote)
-$.49/pound for bananas
-$1.88 for organic grape tomatoes
-3 donuts for tomorrow morning @$.79 ea

Grand total spent; $18.99

HyVee doesn't show anything but coupons on their receipts for savings -- they don't include sale prices, so I am working the rough math out of my price book (another post for another day) ...which brings my retail up to $35.98 and a savings of 47%. I could have lived without the donuts and tomatoes but that is what I get for shopping with the kiddo, LOL!

Not very good compared to my other trips BUT we should be set for all the kids next weekend between the Puppy Party and the Team Picnic in the world of hot dogs!

Saturday will be the Puppy Party where we serve hot dogs, chips, puppy chow and lemonade - with puppy cupcakes for dessert and Sunday is our team picnic with brats, hot dogs, chips, soda - and they all bring a dish to pass! I *MIGHT* have to pick up ice yet...but we have still done VERY well!

Chili Dog Casserole

I know this sounds strange -- and yummy at the same time, LOL You need to know the family history to "get it". We are part German, part English, part Irish and part Tennessee Hillbilly. Seriously. Did you ever see that black and white movie of Gary Cooper's called Sergeant York? Yes, my family comes from the Dyer/Yorks -- same family. Some of the "family recipes" are too far out there for even me to try... But this is a pot luck favorite. SUPER Easy and SUPER Easy to make healthier. We choose the middle of the road option, LOL You need:  1 package hot dog buns (8 ct) 1 package hot dogs 2 cups chili (or 1 can) 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese "fixins" That's it! You could do gluten free or whole grain wheat buns, turkey or tofu dogs, vegetarian chili, vegan or light cheese, you get the drift.
