Woodman's Coupon Run

There is now a sign on the door that posted coupons are only available if you make a purchase. I caught that as I was leaving, but DID buy some gum so it was all good, LOL! In that pile are some coupons I will share with the Madison Coupon Exchange today, but a few I already used like $1/2 Post cereals. I used 4 of those today at Copps. I think it is about $250 in Coupons: they had produce, dairy, organic and cereal Qs by the bajillions - I never took more than 5 of any. Not bad for 30 minutes. (I timed it) Make sure you visit before they are picked over... What did I buy today? They had a cart of gum marked from $.99 - to $.50 I got ten and used $1/2 Qs - making them FREE. They will go in the goody bags for Miss Sarah's birthday party in a few weeks - NOT keeping it as it is strawberry flavored (ick!)

Frugal Friday: Grow it!

Image
Sad to say, if you follow the futures market , prices are going to jump this summer.  They have a few simple reasons: world wide severe crop destroying weather with massive flooding, droughts, freezes and tornados this spring. Rising gas prices. Supply and demand. The fact that we are competing with animals and fuel for our grain supply. Grain has gone up and will continue to do so, so has corn. This is fed to a lot of animals we eat - and that price will go up too. The items that use grain will go up: think cereals, crackers, breads. When the price of animals go up, so does dairy. Think about it:  the dairy is feed the same higher priced feed, resulting in a more expensive end product. (sigh) That means milk, eggs, butter, cheese and yogurt. Now comes produce. Freezes late in the spring hurt crops in Florida, Mexico, etc. Tomatoes were hit hard! You will see less and less of them when you go out to eat - restaurants are removing them from menu items and making them an additional c

If the coupon exceeds the value of the product, do you adjust the price of the coupon down? Ex: $1 off coupon on a $.97 product. Yes. The coupon is accepted and that item becomes Free. Do you limit the number of coupons I may use per transaction? No. You can Stack coupons (use 1 manufacturers and 1 store coupon on the same item) and use 1 manufacturer's coupon per item in your cart. UPDATED - - - - - - -My Plan for the stores this week.

HyVee caught my eye: the 2 day sale on Kraft Mac N Cheese. Seriously, it's cheaper than the $.39/box Aldi price for their private brand. I will also get some cans of veggies and Pork N Beans and 1-2 of those cantaloupes. (shopped on 6/2 and did it) I checked out Pocket Your Dollars for a sneak peak at what our new store fliers will be like on Thursday for Copps and am feeling less than enthused by the deals. I guess I should say LACK of deals...it's not a particularly stellar sales flier. SO, I have sorted through my coupon box and whipped up my plan for Saturday! 5 packs Emerald Breakfast on the Go $3.49 normally, on sale for $3 5 packs Temptations cat treats $2.29 normally, just price dropped to $1.99 I will use 5 coupons for each of the two items and approx $2 in Wags RR to net an out of pocket cost of about $2.95 per transaction, saving about $25 each. I have enough coupons to do this 4 times, thanks to swapping Qs with a few friends. **NEW** I figured out the

Meal Plan Monday

Image
It's the beginning of a new week! In my coupon class, I teach people how to save money at the stores. That is half of the equation for saving money on food, meal planning is the other half to it. You have to USE the food you have brought home and not let yourself make the "fast food run" - those add up fast and kill your budget! Meal planning also saves you time - no more getting home and playing "open up the cupboard doors, what falls out is for dinner" game. You KNOW what you are going to make/eat and have the recipes and ingredients handy. THIS saves you both time and money, two great things! This week brings my family some fun - my hubby only works three days so we can work the grill a bit more. We plan to go out for fish on Friday, but have a back up plan. It's a new month by then and I have a new budget to account for paying for a meal out - as we are out of gift cards for the "fish fry" restaurants. Any time you see ** it means it

Bean Sprouts Cafe Is Gone!

Image
I'm not exactly sure what has happened, but they closed their first location to focus on their site inside the Madison Children's Museum. That, and promoting their cookbook. I even met with Shannon Seip - she was making at pitch to Tupperware about a cross promotion for her book and wanted a little "insider info" before meeting with the big wigs. Neat lady with a lot of great ideas! Now, the Roman Candle is the new "soon to open" restaurant inside the museum and Bean Sprouts is no where. Their California location is to open in 2012, but nothing is listed for the Midwest. Why did they go? I talked to the Museum and was told that they let Bean Sprouts go because they couldn't handle everything that the museum needed from a food partner. They had only that small, on site kitchen and couldn't cater private parties for up to 400 people, etc. Ouch. I know that Shannon was a real marketing whiz - and had a lot of ideas in the works like a syndicated

DIY Tuesday - The End of the Grill Project

Image
I started telling you about the grill last two weeks and it is now done! You can see the freshly stained wood and the freshly painted black firebox  Inside it has new burners, new ignitor, new porcelain coated steel flavorizer bars, and new porcelain coated steel cooking grid and new regulator. The inside of the cover still looks "used" but it is in a lot better condition than the previous owner had left it. We broke it in with hot dogs and brats for the team picnic this past weekend, and corn on the cob and foil packed potatoes to go with our beer can chicken!  The best part about Weber - you can always get replacement parts for them- no matter how old your grill is! This gem is 17 years old, and will last many more years, if simply maintained. The best part? It didn't cost $499, but did come in at about 1/3 of that. He's happy with his new baby and we are putting the "brand X" gas grill we had on Craigslist. I know it would be nice to get a DIY

Team Picnic!

Image
Every year (as far back as I can remember) I have done a family picnic for my TupperTeam. I think it's important to recognize the families behind the family business! We let EVERYONE come - they don't have to earn the event, it is FREE. We have the food to grill, drinks, games for the kids, a bounce house, drawings for them, goodie bags for the kids and more! They only need to bring something to sit on and a dish to pass. If their last name is: A-K, bring a salad, L-Z, bring a dessert. We end up with everything from 7 Layer salad (my absolute fav!) to Triple Chocolate Cake! If you have followed my blog, you know I shop smart and have gotten good deals on brats, dogs, buns, chips and soda -- Mr Andy tends the grill.     We usually put out the croquet, bocce ball and more,  but it was a far cry from last year's 90+ day. We had 65 and light rain! We got out all the canopies to cover food, and be able to sit under. The rain didn't stop the kids though - they di

Happy Memorial Day

One of the hard things to do when you are saving money, is to ignore the great sales specials that they have, especially in a tight economy when they are trying to at least just move the merchandise out of the store! 20%-75% off sales on everything from clothes to small household appliances...this can be very tempting! Here's the deal: I am ELIMINATING stuff from our house and freeing us from clutter! As I go through our house, room by room, shelf by shelf, I am either adding it to the Garage Sale pile or the weekly Frecycle box that I post and gift to someone else. *IF* there is anything that I REALLY need, I keep an eye on Freecycle for that to be posted as an offer from someone - or put it on the Garage Sale list...so we hunt for it while we are out and about. This way I get it free for for just a few pennies instead of brand new and at close to retail prices. I DO wish that the retailers could leave this holiday alone for it's true meaning...it's to remember those
