****Sentry Metcalfe's New Coupon Policy! (starts 8/18)

This doesn't really surprise me as they starting their double days to compete with the Roundy's Chain...and since Roundy's quit on Saturdays, I was just waiting for them to stop.  (sigh) Here are the changes: - EVERY WEDNESDAY (they used to do Saturday too) -$25 minimum purchase required. (BEFORE coupon items are added in)** - Metcalfe’s will double the first 5 coupons, up to and including $1.00 manufacturer coupons. (they used to do 10)  Effective 8/18/11. (we still have a little time to play with the OLD system...) SO....here is an example: You have five items that have a $1/1 coupon - which will give you $10 off. Your cart total needs to be $35 before checking out...so you stay over the $25. Is it just me or is it no longer such a great deal? You can see it here, on their website under Double Coupon Days

Back From Vacay!

Sorry about all the planned ahead posts for you -- I knew I would be up in North Woods of Wisconsin and have very little WiFi. Little did I know we would have storms with power outages too, LOL! Hang on to your hats -- I have a LOT of stuff coming your way the next two days, as I catch up on things :) Blessings...

Cleaning with Vinegar

Image
A re-post of mine -- enjoy You have probably seen the list in an email from a friend or on another website - it's hard to track down where it started, but it certainly is a great item to work with! It's amazing what this can do -- use the white, distilled vinegar for cleaning -- other flavors in a pinch. Keep in mind that you can usually get 1 gallon for under $1 if you simply watch the sales and since it does so much, just think about what toxic, expensive cleaner you can replace with it! Hate the smell? Keep in mind that the distinctive smell is usually gone once the vinegar drys. :) 1. Deodorize the sink: Pour 1 cup baking soda, followed by 1 cup hot vinegar, down the drain. Let sit for at least 5 minutes, then rinse with hot water. 2. Deodorize the garbage disposal: Make ice cubes out of vinegar. Run the disposal with a few vinegar ice cubes and cold water. 3. Clean counter tops: Wipe down surfaces with a rag dipped in vinegar. 4. Clean the fridge: Use a mixture

How Will You Live Today?

This is a repost of mine... I saw a friend on Facebook post the following Coaching Question- What do you want your grandchildren to say about you on your 85th birthday? How will you live it today? This got me thinking...we didn't have a lot of money while I was growing up -- Mom was pretty much a single parent and there were times that she couldn't even give us a quarter so we could get an ice cream cone. These are things I know of from being the oldest, I saw and knew more than she realized I did. Despite the tough times, we have BILLIONS of fantastic memories. Goofy days in the back yard with homemade bubbles, walks and adventures to the public library, our birthdays were super special events, and more! I remember holidays with guests at the table - people who would have been alone on that day, had she not learned that they were going to be alone...All the ways my Mom has touched people's lives. SHE is a gentle spirit, a kind servant of humanity. I can only hope to

Logli (Schnucks) Coupon Policy

As I have that coupon class in Janesville coming up (November 1st at Hedberg) - I will start to carry ad match ups for their Logli (Schnucks) store! They are pretty straight forward: no cards to scan, no point program (PW still has my head spinning!), no fuel perks. What you see is what you get. Here is their policy: They double coupons $.55 and under EVERYDAY. Limit 3 "like" coupon per transaction. They take IPs (Internet Printed Coupons) but not for any FREE item. BOGOs are OK Not bad -- I might have to make a road trip to Janesville more often between them and Big Lots, LOL!

Food Inventory

Image
There are a lot of perks to having a chest freezer: you can take more advantage of sales on things that need to be frozen, buy more meat on sale and bake larger quantities of treats for future use. It really does pay for itself when you consider how small a freezer is in a freezer/fridge combo unit. One thing I have been asked, is "how do you know what you have in your freezer?" Simple. I have an inventory list! At the beginning of the month, I have a complete list of what is in it. As the month progresses, I cross off what we use, and write in what we add. At the end of the month, I put a * next to the original items on the list, pull off what we used and add in what we bought to have a fresh new list for the new month. The * tells me it is an older item and I need to try to use it first. If it doesn't get used that second month it becomes a ** item and HAS to be used the third month! This keeps my inventory rotated, food from getting too old or "freezer bur

We Can't Afford That.....

Miss Sarah and I saw the move Judy Moodie: Not So Bummer Summer the other day with the Kids Rule summer film series for $2 and one thing jumped out at me: When Judy was asking her Mom to go here....do this.....do that, the reply was "We can't afford that". Being a fruglaista - I like to think of myself not as cheap, but savvy. I know the value of items and look for a better deal, making the family dollar go further. I also want the message to my daughter to be a one of great stewardship of finances vs. the thought that we don't have any money. Choosing how to spend it, not that there isn't any to spend. I played a game with her during the All You Magazine challenge: she would ask for something at the store and I would tell her how many packages of strawberries ( Her absolute fav!) we could get instead and let her make the choice. ---Example: She wanted a $4 box of fruit snacks that had only 8 packets in it and that small box didn't seem so great when she r

HyVee Ad This Week (7/31 - 8/6)

Image
***Keep in mind my guidelines: $1/# or less for fresh produce and $2/# or less for meat when looking at the deals this week...what is a stock up price this week? Donna at Madison Coupon Connection beat me to the list this week - you can see it here. Thanks Donna!

Meal Plan Monday

Image
It's the beginning of a new week! In my coupon class, I teach people how to save money at the stores. That is half of the equation for saving money on food, meal planning is the other half to it. You have to USE the food you have brought home and not let yourself make the "fast food run" - those add up fast and kill your budget! Meal planning also saves you time - no more getting home and playing "open up the cupboard doors, what falls out is for dinner" game. You KNOW what you are going to make/eat and have the recipes and ingredients handy. THIS saves you both time and money, two great things! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This is a vacation week - so it means two things! 1) Freezer meals ready for the house sitter ( special thanks to my "kid" brother ) 2) Meals on the road for us - so we can keep vacay costs down! We share a large cabin every year with my in laws

Quick Accounting

Image
I thought I would quickly crunch a few numbers for you (and me)! I haven't done this since we met the goal of $40,000 in March of this year...and we have been still saving! Not all the savings has gone into the house fund: we went to Colorado for a week for a family wedding/vacation. It was beautiful, yet not cheap, LOL! We are also saving for a Disney Vacation - planning to have it paid before we go, instead of putting a lot of money on the credit card ;) Add a week long trip to the cabin with the in laws and it's a lot of time off, that we have budgeted for. I have just about paid for ALL the trips, as well as adding some more money to the "fund". I also have bought a new couch! (you can read about the old one here ...) The new one is multi functional as it is a sleeper sofa too - so it doubles as a guest room, LOL! Here is the picture -- it will look better in our living room after I paint the walls beige. I DO think the cat approves of it...it DOES ha
