What Do You Think?

My laptop was sick. Very sick. I couldn't get it to boot up and thought I had lost EVERYTHING (yes, I know the value of backing things up and was slacking...) My dear hubby couldn't fix it but he has this IT guy he works with who does amazing stuff with computers....so he asked him. Bless him dearly - the computer was a mess and he JUST finished it. It took almost a week! He won't let us pay anything so, I picked up two cases of Spotted Cow this morning that he will get when I get my laptop today. Picture it: stacked, with one large red bow on top. :) OK -- I probably got off REALLY cheap. A week at a place like Office Depot, with what had to be done, would probably be more expensive than a new lap top. It pays to have friends! FYI: I am calling the receipt "Office Expense: computer repair fee"... stapled to the small stack of emails about it. Ha!

Reminder: Military Coupons

Image
**We have a box almost ready to go -- it could use a few more, if you have them. :) It will go out on 2/3 Do you have expired coupons? Do NOT throw them out --  you can still put them to good use!! Our military families give up so much for us, that there is one simple thing we can do to give back to them: send them our expired coupons! I know, it sounds wacky - but they can use them for up to 6 months past the expiration date at the Commissary (for edible items) and their PX (for personal care items).  Here are a few things you need to know -- It takes a while to get them to the people who will use them, once a package is shipped over seas. That means all coupons have to be mailed with at least 4 months to go. All coupons have to be sorted into two groups: things people eat and things they dont. That is the difference between the Commissary and PX. You can only send manufacturer's coupons -- no store or restaurant coupons. Operation $40K has adopted a base in the UK

Recyclebank

It is simple: Learn more about living a little "greener" life, earn points, redeem them for coupons! These are often high value coupons for things like Yoplait, Dove, Coke, Gain, etc. In less than five minutes, I had 100 points, enough for two different coupons! Sign up HERE and have fun with the kiddos! Maybe you are luckier than I am - I don't live in an area where I can get points for the recycle garbage that gets picked up each week, but you could! THAT could add up real fast! The best part? It's FREE! =)

$2 Sale is BACK for Restaurant.Com!

Image
You know I love going out to eat -- but I do NOT like the hefty price tag that it comes with... This is a great way to indulge, but not attack the family budget! I wait until this sale comes around and then, stock up on a few favorites. There is nothing like going out to eat but saving 92% when you do! $23 off a $25 restaurant gift certificate -- it makes for a great "date night" or occasional treat. Just one thing: hurry, they tend to go fast =) Remember the code : DATE

New Amish Starter Recipe: Chocolate Bread

If you have been playing along with us today is Day 10! If you haven't, you can see my original post HERE . The thought here is that Chocolate is the 5th food group and we should have at least one serving a day, LOL! It also makes for nice host gifts, is great with everything from strawberry jam to Cool Whip for dessert and creates a simply amazing aroma to come home to. Enjoy! Day 10: Combine in a large bowl: Batter from the bag 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup milk. Stir and pour four, 1 cup starters into ziplock bags. Keep one for yourself (it's your new starter) and give the other three to friends with these instructions. To the remaining batter in a non-metal bowl add and mix well: 1 cup oil 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup milk 3 eggs 1 tsp vanilla 2 cups flour 3 tsp cocoa powder 3/4 cup chocolate chips 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp salt 1-1/2 tsp baking powder 1 large box chocolate instant pudding (dry powder from the box, no milk added) Preheat oven to 325. Frugal Friday: Goal Setting

Image
I am TOTALLY thrilled that Emily from  The Thrifty Social Worker agreed to share with us! This is RIGHT up her ally - helping others set goals! E njoy this post and make sure you check out her site -- she's doing an AMAZING job saving for her wedding, paying off her school loans and having a lot of fun through it all. =) I'm super excited that Dannelle invited me to write a post on goal setting! As a social worker, a key part of my job is to help the people I work with figure out their goals. It can definitely be easier said than done! The first of the year is always a great time to set new goals for the coming year. It’s a fantastic time to take stock of what you have and what you want out of life.
