FREE Hair Cuts!!

Image
Call your local JcPenney Salon NOW to book a FREE haircut for your kiddos if they are going to be entering Kindergarten thru 6th grade this fall! A few things about this: You have to be a JCP Rewards Member (sign up FREE and earn 100 points) It is August only. It is a $14 value. It is a 15 minute appointment - JUST a cut. No washing/etc. Bring CA$H to tip the stylist. Just because it is a FREE service from the salon, doesn't mean that they stylist should get stiffed. (think waitresses and tips/same concept). I say CA$H as there will be no bill - you can't use plastic and process it through the salon. Still - a $3-5 tip on a FREE cut is a heck of a great deal! Call your salon quick - they only have so many slots available! :) (Thanks to my Mamma for forwarding me her email!)

Emergency Prep

Image
In my coupon class, I mention a few reasons WHY you want some sort of a stockpile. Even FEMA says we should all have at least a 72 hour supply of food that we can eat, without cooking and bottled water. In Wisconsin, we don't have things like hurricanes but do have to worry about things like tornadoes, severe fires (thanks to the drought), ice storms, blizzards, and chemical spills. The last item is important if you live within five miles of any railroad tracks or within one mile of a major highway. Accident's happen. Trains are derailed and semi's crash. That could mean toxic chemicals and your family is in harm's way. Are you ready? Just check out this quick video: I am a firm believer that when you have a plan, you don't need it! We are talking about a few things IN ADDITION to food, like you saw in the clip. Did you see how the organized family took the computer CPU? If there is looting after you leave and you didn't take it, you could have

What Does The Drought Mean?

Image
This is a picture of the grass in my front yard. I made sure to get a little of my peony bush in there so you could see how NOT green my grass really is. {{{sniff}}} In Southern Wisconsin, just since June we are down about five inches of rain... it is worse if you factor in May. Add record high temperatures over the last few weeks and we have some serious conditions. Many local areas cancelled their firework displays this year. Many areas have a "burn ban" going on. More than half the counties in Wisconsin have been declared emergency situations as it is now an EXTREME drought here, from our Governor and they are now talking about water restrictions. {{{sigh}}} Let me tell you right up front: I am not worried about the grass. It is hearty stuff and had simply gone "dormant". It will come back in full force as long as it is NOT watered and NOT mowed. We haven't mowed the yard since the first week of May. What AM I worr

My Shopping Plans this weekend...

Image
I know - it's Double Double Daze at Copp's and Pick N Save this weekend! I fully intend to use that bonus discount. :) Here is the thing... I don't need anything. We are pretty well stocked and I have no room to put 60+ new items. My Plan? Shop for the food pantry! Last week, the Quaker cereals were on sale for $2.50 a box, normally $4.13-4.25 at my store. I went late in the afternoon on Saturday and hoped to see an empty shelf. I did! That meant a rain check for THIS week and on Monday, I called in an order for 100 boxes of cereal. $2.50 x 10 boxes = $25.00 -use ten $1.00/1 coupons (doubled) pay $5.00 out of pocket. That is $41.30 of cereal for $5.00, saving 88%. I am doing that ten times, using my store card for 6 transactions and then my Mom's for the last 4. I DID do a match up for the ad, you can see it HERE . If I was shopping for normal stuff, what would catch my eye? Meats from the 13 hour sale Johnsonville brats LaChoy Dinner Creations for my

Jell-O Poke Cake

Image
This is an oldie, but a goodie. I always seem to pull it out of my files when the weather is warmer as it is a light, cool, refreshing treat. :) SUPER easy to do! Start by baking a 9x13 cake - yellow or white. Then, as it cools, whip up 6oz of Jell-O, per the box instructions. I prefer lemon or lime, but any flavor will do. Pop that Jell-O in the fridge for a bit to start thickening. As the cake cools, use the back of a handle to poke holes in it. Then pour your slightly thickened Jell-O over it, aiming mostly for the holes. "Frost" it quick with Cool Whip or Fresh Whipped Cream Simply chill until ready to slice and serve. Yum! **You CAN make this slightly healthier... Use egg whites instead of whole eggs, use Fat Free Cool Whip and Sugar Free gelatin.

Target 70% Dollar Spot Clearance!

Image
I had a feeling that it would be "turn over" time for the Dollar Spot at Target, seeing as it is a week after Independence Day and they had a lot of red, white and blue items. :) I was right! I grabbed 15 things that were normally $1.00 - and they rang up at $.30 each! For $4.75 (that includes sales tax) I got 4 packs of snap barrettes and 11 double packs of star shaped bubble necklaces! There were a lot of fun things there - but I was pressed for time. I knew with a double pool party on Saturday that the necklaces would be a hit! Make sure you check out your Target before it's all picked over!

While The Oven Is Hot...And a Chicken Salad Recipe!

Image
While the oven is hot, make the most of it! I learned this a long time ago from my mother. (She ROCKS!) I knew I had croissants to bake off last night. Since I had to turn the oven on, it only made sense to keep going! I make a 9x13 cake for a Lime Jell-O Poke Cake. Then, I made biscuits for Biscuits 'n Gravy. I also pulled a cookie dough pack out and made 2 dozen cookies for the party on Saturday. The oven was only on about an hour, but I planned ahead a little and make that extra heat in the summer kitchen pay off. :) It also saves money because I didn't turn it on, and then off, over and over this week. Bonus!! Now, let's get to that Candied Chicken Curry Salad Recipe! I like to use grilled chicken for this - but you could even use canned. I kind of figure that while the grill is hot - I might as well grill as much as I can and chill it for later - kind of like working with the oven. Dannelle's Curried Chicken Salad 2 cups Diced/Shredded cooked chicken 1
