Getting Rid Of Stuff!

Image
One of the perks of knowing you are moving in a year - you have plenty of time to sort through your house and get ready! Closet by closet, shelf by shelf, I have been sorting things and playing the game of "keep it, pack it, get rid of it". Things we still love and use are kept, and neatly put back, maybe slightly better organized. Things we don't use know, but I can see in the newer, larger house get packed into a box, labeled and again, put away. It's the "get rid of it" stuff that keeps me really busy! Some things simply have no useful life left in them and end up in the garbage. Some things end up on Freecycle because they have SOME life in them yet, but aren't sell able - like Sarah's outgrown play clothes that might have a spot or two on them thanks to the sandbox, etc. Then there are the things that are still perfectly good, they just have no place in our home/family any more. Those get priced right away and put into the boxes for the spring g

Monday Meal Planning!

Here is the plan for the week...after looking at what I have in the freezer, what I am buying this week and what is on our family calendar. Breakfast is usually the same: cold cereal* or oatmeal* with a piece of fresh fruit (apple, strawberries, grapes or banana) Lunch is either leftovers, peanut butter* & jelly sandwiches, or cold plate with sausage or diced chicken - cheese* - crackers* & fresh fruit. Dinner: Monday - grilled chicken, twice baked potatoes*, canned corn* Tuesday - left overs/fridge clean out Wednesday - grilled cheese, chips*, soup* (probably canned tomato) Thursday - shredded beefies on a bun* (from last week's sale that I already had in the crock pot), carrot sticks*, bread N butter pickles* Friday - red beans* and rice* with 1/2 a smoked sausage that I slice & pan fry Saturday - home made nachos! Taco meat from the ground beef session, diced tomatoes*, cheese* (trying out that new Kraft zap-a-slice nacho sauce), shredded lettuce, sour cream* and I w

Qucik Strawberry Recipe

Strawberry Cream Cheese Tart 8 servings Preparation: 10 min. Cooking: 5 min. Total: 15 min. 3/4 lb cream cheese, softened 1 graham cracker pie crust 3 cups fresh strawberries, cleaned 1/2 cup red currant jelly, or grape jelly Spread cream cheese in the graham cracker crust. Place strawberries right-side up in the cream cheese. Chill for at least one hour. Heat the jelly over low heat until smooth and of glaze-like texture. Pour over the strawberries. Serve immediately or refrigerate. I took this super easy recipe right off the Aldi's website -- it looked SO yummy! Of course, I will make my own crust, but we might try this recipe this week. What is YOUR favorite strawberry recipe? Please share as this is the PERFECT season for them and the prices will be super!

Shopping Plan For This Week

I just LOVE my Sunday paper! I peruse the sales fliers for the department stores, read local restaurant reviews, enjoy the funnies (and save them for child friendly wrapping paper), read book reviews and update my reading list. The list could just go on and on! Jumping out at me were a few things like the fact that Aldi's has some GREAT deals that just jumped out at me - all on the front of their circular. Avocados for $.39 each, while everyone else has them for $1+, has my mouth telling me that it is time to make guacamole again. Add their prices on strawberries $1.19 and Roma tomatoes for $.99/pound and that will probably be my produce run for the week. I am thinking 6 avocados, 3# tomatoes, 5-6 packs of strawberries and 1-2 pineapples (same price as strawberries) and maybe a $.59 head of ice burg lettuce for some BLTs this week - I can use up 2# of the bacon that is safely tucked into my chest freezer for safety. It might be time to test out that "magic bullet" that I
