Fun Things to Do This Weekend
A few things we are looking at for this weekend's activities
Children of the Rainforest: Brisas del Peru
February 19, Performances at 10:30 am and 1:30 pm
Tickets available at the door: $3 ages 13 & up, $2 children 12 and under, Free for ages 2 and under
Travel to the tropics without leaving Wisconsin! Brisas del Peru, a Madison-based dance group, performs at Olbrich Botanical Gardens on February 19 for the Children of the Rainforest series. Enjoy lively rhythms and colorful costumes with dances from Peru.
As a special addition, Carmen “Luchi” Lamarque will incorporate her unique blend of Latin American vocal music with the authentic Peruvian dances. With more than 18 years of experience, Lamarque blends Brazilian and Afro-Peruvian rhythms with jazz influences to make her own unique sound.
One of the dances Brisas del Peru will perform is a Jungle Dance, with musical rhythms based on carnival games. Costumes for the Jungle Dance are hand-made in Peru from natural fibers. Traditional accessories for the costumes are decorated with bones, seeds, and feathers. Other dances include the Tuntuna dance, which originated the highlands of Puno, Peru, and the Festejo, an Afro-Peruvian dance from the coastal region.
The Children of the Rainforest series offers performances for families to celebrate cultural differences in rainforest regions around the world and is made possible by a gift from William Wartmann.

$2 per adult, $1 per child, no charge for children under two years old.

We saw the Brisas del Peru today - they were fantastic and had all the kids learn a little dance with them.

That's really cool!! We often take advantage of the free kids workshops at Lowe's with my son and we have several really nice parks in our area for pretty days (like today for us).
