Amazing and Humbling.

Today at church, we baptized 24 people; men, women and children.
That in itself is fantastic, but the story behind these people makes it even more so.

These people are new to our country, the first of them came over in October of last year.
They are Bhutanese refugees.

Bhutan is bordered by China, Nepal and India. In the mid 1980's the government declared a program of "Bhutanization", calling for one country, one people. This eliminated the traditional dress, worship and language of these southern Bhutanese people in favor of the Northern, ruling Druk majority and king. The families have been living in refugee camps for almost twenty years. They have suffered human rights violations, including detention and loss of citizenship. (FYI - that paragraph came right out of my church bulletin, I am not that savvy on the situation over there, LOL)

Our church's refugee ministry helped with relocating these six families, helped them with English classes and other classes to add job skills. They do repay their airfare and participate in our churches other ministries (food pantry, youth programs, etc).

To look at these families and realize that less than half of them knew life outside of a refugee camp...
WOW.

We are SO BLESSED in this country - even if we don't think we are!!
There is ALWAYS someone who is worse off than we are.
Your glass may only be half full, but someone doesn't even have a glass...

I'm not saying that everyone in our country has it easy -
some need quite a bit of help too, and we have the power to help them!
As couponers we have an option to rack up a lot of FREE or NEARLY FREE stuff
and can easily help others.
Even if you only picked up 5 items a month to donate -
that is 60 items a year than can make someones life a little easier.

In case you are curious, yes - I bawled through the service today, LOL
Seriously - I killed 6 Kleenex.

There were a few little babies -
who will never know the harsh and restricted life of their older siblings.
That, is a good thing.
