It's kind of a quiet weekend -- but the weather should be AMAZING - get out an enjoy it!

Saturday, May 5th
Build a Planter at Home Depot!
• FREE hands-on workshops designed for children ages 5 - 12 offered the 1st Saturday of every month at all The Home Depot stores between 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
• Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill a sense of pride and accomplishment.
• All kids get to keep their craft and receive a FREE Kids Workshop Apron, commemorative pin and certificate of achievement.
• Kids will learn to build their very own planter box while learning tool safety
• Have fun, make friends and gain a sense of achievement and work ethic

Get Your FREE Comic Book!
I saw this posted in one of the libraries I talked at last week -- SUPER COOL!
It's National Comic Book Day! You can read more HERE but the local stores are:
  • The Westfield Company (944 Williamson, suite #3 - Madison)
  • Capitol City Comics (1910 Monroe St - Madison)
  • Westfield Comics (7475 Mineral Point Rd, suite #22 - Madison)
Not in the Madison Area? Check for something local HERE

The Dane County Farmer's Market on the Square!!!!
Squeeky Cheese Curds, Baked goods, spring produce AND the beautiful downtown Madison - what more could you ask for?

Visit the UW Geology Museum
1215 W. Dayton St., 262-2399, http://www.geologymuseum.org/ (Mon-Fri 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sat. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free.) —Besides its extensive mineral, rock and fossil collections behind glass, kids can touch rocks from a time when there were volcanoes in Wisconsin, see rocks and minerals that glow, and stand under huge mastodon tusks. Great for those like my daughter who want to be a Paleontologist!

Sunday, May 6th

Visit the McKay Center!
Spring is EARLY this year and that means the flowering trees are too!
It's the PERFECT weekend to hit the McKay center and check out everything from apple trees to lilacs. You can't take a picnic lunch in there but it is worth checking out - it's also a FAB backdrop for great photos of your children!
You will be dazzled by the sweet smells of nature! See more HERE

The Memorial Union Terrace
They always seem to have something fun going on there - music, Babcock ice cream, etc and there is no charge!
Last time we went there were FREE crafts, a GIANT inflatable Bucky, Balloon animals and an outdoor brat stand (not FREE).
Look for the big orange chair and turn it into a photo-op like we did with Miss Sarah and the peanut of Ashely from Coupons for Wisconsin last weekend.
:)

Henry Vilas Zoo
We are SOOO lucky to have a FREE Zoo!
Make a day out of it with a picnic.
PLEASE read the FAQ list HERE - for lots of tips, address/directions and general animal safety

Waisman Center Children's Theatre- GoonGOO Peas African
Sundays per schedule...NOT an event every weekend!
Shows take place in the Friends of the Waisman Center Auditorium at 1500 Highland Ave, off of University Ave near the UW Hospital. Admission to these short, family-friendly performances are usually just $2 for adults and $1 for children, thanks to sponsorship from American Girl Fund for Children.
Rhythm, drumming, dancing and more with the GoonGoo Peas African drumming group. (show at 1:15 p.m.) Craft projects and a parade too! RAIN of SHINE. (Events move indoors in inclement weather)
1:00 PM only - just one show, it's the LAST show of the season for them
