Weekend Fun In The Madison Area

This is going to be an interesting Wisconsin weekend: warm and wet on Saturday, super cold on Sunday. (If the weather people are correct...)

I know there is an ice fishing event for kids on Saturday (by the Yahara Fishing Club at Brittingham Park from 9am-1pm,)  but it should be NASTY out there after the rain/etc that we started getting yesterday. Seriously, hit the Kid's In the Rotunda or something else instead of being wet and cold. (Wet + cold = hypothermia, right?) Although, they will have free hot dogs and cocoa..........

Saturday, January 12th
***Most sledding hills and skate rinks are open now!
Kids In The Rotunda
Performances at 9:30 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM, 1 PM performances American Sign Language Interpreted - it's The Yo-Yo antics of Mark Hayward!
Your local library!
Check with them for their fall programs - they are FREE and usually super fun!
Visit the UW Geology Museum
1215 W. Dayton St., 262-2399,http://www.geologymuseum.org/ (Mon-Fri 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Sat. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free.) —Besides its extensive mineral, rock and fossil collections behind glass, kids can touch rocks from a time when there were volcanoes in Wisconsin, see rocks and minerals that glow, and stand under huge mastodon tusks. Great for those like my daughter who want to be a Paleontologist!
Chemistry Fun at UW Space Place
Space Place family workshops are offered every Saturday at 10 a.m. for children ages 6-10 and their parents. The workshops are free and open to the public. No registration is required for any of the workshops but attendance is LIMITED to the first 50 people.

Sunday, January 13th

All About Snow
Stop at the UW Arboretum (1:30-2:30PM) for a FREE Nature Talk about snow. (if we have any left after all the rain). Dress warm folks, it's going to be VERY chilly!

The Memorial Union Terrace
They always seem to have something fun going on there - music, Babcock ice cream, etc and there is no charge!
Last time we went there were FREE crafts, a GIANT inflatable Bucky, Balloon animals and an outdoor brat stand (not FREE).
Look for the big orange chair and turn it into a photo-op like we did with Miss Sarah and the peanut of Ashely from Coupons for Wisconsin already this summer!
:)

The Vilas Zoo!
We are lucky enough to have a FREE Zoo that is open year round...check it out
